Composite material is a combination of two or more materials that, while retaining their respective identities, produce a material with characteristics different from the individual components.
Carbon fibre reinforced plastic/polymer occurs when carbon fibre bonds with a resin system—usually epoxy or acrylic. The resin works with the carbon fibres to form a “weave” in a geometric arrangement.
The chemical bond created by carbon atoms in the resin matrix produce a material that is strong and stiff. Algeos supply several types of Carbon Composite.
Composites have low thickness to weight ratio, that allows for much stiffer orthotic devices with a much thinner and lighter presence for the patient. Composites are used when material strength is the key device requirement. Hence its use in prosthetics, sports devices and orthoses for heavier patients.
